These earrings were handmade in the style of the Retro period. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the earrings feature beautiful Colombian emeralds and diamond stones. The use of such colorful and sparkling stones in these earrings is an excellent homage to the Hollywood Regency style, which rose to popularity during the Retro period. Eager to show off their wealth and style, Hollywood celebrities and socialites during this time would adorn themselves with glamorous jewelry, usually featuring eye-catching, expensive stones. These earrings were made in the style of Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, & Tiffany designs that were influencing the Hollywood Regency style, making the viewer think of the likes of Ava Gardner and Katharine Hepburn.
Each drop earring features ten Colombian emerald stones, twenty in total with a bright green hue. These stones are semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through their bodies and illuminate these hues. With round-faceted cuts, the emeralds sparkle when they catch the light. Each emerald rests securely in a 14k yellow gold prong setting, the vibrant hue of the yellow gold a lovely contrast to the green emeralds. The History
Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s. This was a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes stemming from World War II. The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves appropriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.

It is said that Colombian Emeralds are the purest in the world because they are the only emerald deposits on Earth to be found in sedimentary rock instead of igneous. This type of emerald features a translucent classic green hue with a beautiful, natural internal matrix.
