Each earring is a beautiful representation of the Danish styling of Georg Jensen. The History
The Art Nouveau era, 1890-1910, was also called "La Belle Epoque" in French, which translates to "A Beautiful Time.” This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period. This era focused on women and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a common material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first World War, when mass manufacturing took over production of many products, including some jewelry.
Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith and founded his first shop in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1904. His background in fine arts, combined with his silversmithing, allowed him to create beautiful and high-quality jewelry which quickly became highly sought after. In the 1920s he opened locations in Berlin, London, and New York, producing popular Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces. His pieces were known for their whimsical nature scenes, with flowing lines, and serene images. Georg Jensen pieces often used sterling silver and incorporated amber, malachite, moonstones, and opals. Although Jensen passed away in 1935, the company continued in his name, and is still in operation today. Vintage Georg Jensen pieces are highly collectible.
