Notable Features
: These earrings were handmade during the Art Deco era.
The look during this period was about expressing modernity and style - think flappers and Gatsby parties. Strong, geometric lines took off as did over-the-top sparkle and pizzazz. This incredible item of jewelry was made in the spray style, a look that was wildly popular during the Art Deco era. The spray style is indicated by precious stones that seem to "spray" or fan out from the piece itself in a flash of drama and glamour.
These .925 sterling silver earrings were made in a swirl motif. The earrings seem to swirl out from the center, adding a touch of glamour and movement to the item. The earrings feature round faceted cut as well as rectangular faceted cut rhinestones. These clear stones were specifically faceted to catch and reflect the light, adding to the sparkle of the piece. These earrings have clip-on backings which make them suitable for both pierced and unpierced ears. Don't miss your opportunity to own this amazing piece of history.

The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
During the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras, spray-style jewelry became immensely popular. Spray jewelry often includes precious stones and metalwork that fans out in multiple directions to create ornate and attention-grabbing sparkle.
The origination of the name “rhinestone” comes from the Rhine River, which flows through the central and western portions of Europe. With a diamond-like appearance, this natural crystal was found commonly in the Rhine. The practice of mimicking diamonds evolved into altering glass with a variety of metal based materials. Over time, people such as the inventor Georg Friedrich Strass, mixed bismuth and thallium for more sparkle, and metal salts for more color. Sometimes layers of lead were added to the bottom of glass to transform their optical properties. Jewelry companies experimented by coating an entire gemstone with metal deposition (such as with vapor deposition or thin foil). Rhinestones continue to be a popular gem that is used and enjoyed in jewelry, costumes, and other apparel.
