I AM LIQUIDATING MY 50 YEARS OF SCALE COLLECTION.This particular scale may be called a gold pocket scale or a coin scale. It is from the 1800’s. Scales were used by prospectors to weigh their gold finds and to aid trading. They were popular and used to weigh coins to detect shaving small amounts of gold off by cheaters. This scale was purchased out of the museum of central Idaho that closed down in 1960. The Mahogany box is 8“ x 3 3/4“ x 1 1/4“ It is lined with a purple felt that’s pretty well worn. The iron steelyard is 6 inches long the drop bar is 3 inches long, the pans are 2 1/2 inch diameter brass and supported by cloth string that appears original. There is great patina on the box and scale, some nicks, pits and scratches commensurate with a near 200 year old antique.
No weight set is included, but I have several sets to choose from in other listings, as well as other antique scales - check them out.
