This is an absolutely exceptional tapir maxilla (upper jaw). This specimen that we seriously considered adding to our collection, and we don't even specifically collect tapir - it's just that nice of a piece!! The teeth are absolutely exceptional and each is fully intact with no damage. Unique range of enamel color from orange to black. Large portion of bone is intact including the beginning of the zygomatic arch. It also has at least one bonus tooth that is still unerupted and within the bone that is only visible through a small hole above the teeth, this would be a fun piece to X-ray as there are likely more teeth still encased in bone. Rock solid and very heavily mineralized specimen. Really exceptional piece that makes a great display. These are very rare to find this nice and intact.
