    Dynamite WWII diamond & pink sapphire dangle earrings

    These earrings are absolutely stunning, glistening with diamonds, 48 of them, for a total gem weight of approximately 1/2 carat.  In addition, each earring is enriched with a 4mm by 5mm natural pink sapphire for a dynamite look.  The style is a 1 1/2 inch long dangle made in two parts.  The tops are diamond-studded graceful open rosettes that measure 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 inch while the drop is replete with diamonds plus a natural pink sapphire.  The drop measures 3/4 of an inch by 9/16 of an inch.  The pair weighs a combined 9.6 grams for easy-to wear comfort in a spectacular setting of palladium, silver and gold.
    The setting of rhodium-washed palladium alloy allow us to date this estate beauty to the period around World War II when gold and platinum were in limited supply for non-military purposes. Palladium and rhodium are in the same chemical group as the other precious metals and were used as a substitute for white gold and platinum. Because palladium is so hard, it was usually mixed with other metals, usually with gold and silver, to make it into a workable alloy.  A final rhodium wash adds shine.  Lovely estate jewelry in excellent condition, it will come in a sparkly pouch inside of one of my signature boxes, perfect for gift-giving.
